In a world overflowing with expectations, comparisons, and life’s journeys, finding your “(un)”—a term I coined, which essentially serves as the through-line theme of my businesses—can be a liberating and transformative experience. What exactly is the (un)? How can you discover and claim YOUR (un)? Let's dive into this concept and examine how it can guide you toward gratification and success in all facets of your life. I’ll bet you even have some (un) fun.
What is Your (UN)?
Your (un) represents the unique, often unconventional aspects of who you are—your individuality, passions, and path that might deviate from the norm. It’s about taking an inner look into yourself and identifying what makes you different, special, and true to your essence. This involves stepping away from societal pressures and the expectations of others to find what honestly resonates with you. Your (un) will evolve by your life’s experiences.
Why Discovering Your (UN) is Important?
Exploring your (un) is being able to think differently about yourself. How do you perceive yourself? Self-discovery of your (un) involves introspection and promotes personal growth. It encourages you to question, explore, and ultimately be self-aware of who you are at a deeper level.
Let's Get Started
1. Reflect on Your Passions, Interests, & Experiences
Start by examining what excites and motivates you. Reflect on moments when you felt most alive and engaged. What life events played a role in shaping your (un)? Your (un) often lies in your curiosities and inclinations.
2. Be Vulnerable
Examine areas of your life where you might be conforming to societal expectations rather than following your own desires. Are there parts of your life where you’re playing it safe or adhering to others’ standards? Recognizing these patterns is the first step towards breaking free from the status quo.
3. Explore New Horizons
Sometimes, finding your (un) involves stepping out of your comfort zone. Engage in new activities, be open to fresh experiences, connect with diverse individuals, and delve into different areas of interest. Encountering new ventures can broaden your perspective and move beyond a limited viewpoint.
4. Listen to Your Inner Voice
Listen to your intuition and self-talk. Often, the most profound insights about your true self come from within. Dedicate time for introspection (journaling, meditation, etc.) to connect with your inner thoughts and emotions.
5. Welcome Change
Discovering your (un) can be a journey full of uncertainty. It is perfectly fine not to have all the answers immediately. Embrace the unknown and trust that this process will ultimately guide you toward deeper self-awareness and fulfillment.
Discovering your (un) is more than just pinpointing what makes you uniquely special; it’s about living in a way that honors your true self. Finding unconventional paths may not be the easiest or the fastest but could be the most effective. By reflecting on your (un), challenging conformity, welcoming uncertainty, and being in harmony with your ‘unconventional’ self, you gain a more profound understanding of your identity and purpose.
So take the leap, and start your (un) journey towards self-discovery today by sharing, in the comments, a word that both begins with “un” and reflects a part of your essential (un)—or, at the very least, a bit about what you think it is or even want it to be.
